Christina Bermudez Pires: Operations Manager

We're excited to introduce our new Operations Manger, Christina Bermudez-Pires. Christina's nickname at home with her wife and daughter is "Mama Wolf" because she's known for keeping everything in order. She did the same herding a team of family law lawyers in her previous job. Now she's keeping us in line and all our operations running smoothly, all in the interest of assuring we are serving our clients and our mission fully.

What makes a "Strong Town"

Everyone has an opportunity to live a good life in a prospering place. How can we make that happen?

That's the question the folks at "Strong Towns" invite us to consider about the places we live - then take practical action to create. They are leaders in the movement to rethink what makes a community thrive as they unravel the ways in which zoning, parking mandates, government bureaucracies, city finance, and other conditions undermine what we all desire. Their newsletter, articles, podcast, and videos offer inspiring examples of folks leading the way across North America working to make their cities safe, livable, and financially resilient.

Local Eco Leader: Leticia Colon de Mejias

We encourage every homeowner we work with to get an energy audit. That's how we met Leticia and her company Energy Efficiency Solutions. What we learned next will impress you as it did for us.

Leticia is a force of nature and a woman on a mission (actually many missions!). Beyond EES she co-founded Green Eco Warriors, a non-profit Youth Ecology and Conservation group fostering leadership skills, scientific inquiry, scholastic success, and environmental stewardship among young people. In addition she has authored and illustrated eight children’s books promoting this vision. You'll also find her speaking out in an advocacy role across the state.

You are not your Stuff: Swedish Death Cleaning

Things take up space in our minds, well beyond what our attics and garages hold (we've seen first hand how cluttered they can become). By clarifying what’s important and what’s not, you make room. Döstädning, or Swedish death cleaning, isn’t about clearing out closets. It’s about rethinking your relationship with things. Rather than making do with less, it’s about getting more from the things that make you happy. And stunningly, our stuff is second only to transportation in its carbon impact!

The Swedes know the secret to happiness: You are not your stuff

Houzz Magazine: Our Passive House Project Featured

Contrary to the impression the word may give, passive homes are anything but lazy. A house designed to take advantage of the solar heat streaming through a window is actively saving energy. Taking it a step further, and into the realm of the Passive House building standard, a house can be designed to work hard in every season to maintain a comfortable and healthy indoor living environment, without consuming superfluous energy.

This magazine feature on the home design website Houzz tells that story and features our Harwinton Passive House

The Passive House: What It Is and Why You Should Care
