Becoming Wolfworks has been a forty year journey and I've had the pleasure of collaborating with hundreds of people doing this work, serving people who've valued what we do, and thinking and learning together how to do it better with our professional peers. As I turn 70 I am handing that project off to Wolfworks' new cooperative owners, Janet and Kyle (with future owners to come). It's our hope that they never finish the project of becoming Wolfworks and fulfilling its mission to do work that matters. Work that is measured by a triple bottom line of People, Planet, and Prosperity.

Your invited to Celebrate and Share

We'll be celebrating that legacy at a gathering to take place at Winding Trails in Farmington on Thursday October 12 from 7-9PM. This will be an opportunity to honor the work and the relationships that made it all possible. Jamie will reflect on that journey, and consider where it is leading and express his confidence and optimism about the people who will guide it forward. There will be slides! Others will share a few words. Since this next chapter is life's Dessert course, tasty treats will be provided.

A Design Seat to fill

We're still on the search for an Architect to round out the Wolfworks Design Team. This is a great opportunity for a mission aligned architect with a passion for residential design to work alongside Kyle, Janet, and Connor to create "Homes that Fit." It's also an opportunity to become a member of our worker coop.

We're seeking the "Optopia"

Science Fiction writer Kim Stanley Robinson wrote "The Ministry of the Future" to imagine the possibility of a decarbonized future. He says:
“If we dodge a climate catastrophe and a mass extinction event in this century, that's a utopian story. I've been using a word that I think Johanna Russ invented called the optopia. So it's not the utopia, the no place, the perfect place, it's the optopia. It's the optimum that we can do given the situation that we're handed."

Making Every Square Foot Count

We've been thinking hard about homes that fit and strategies that make every square foot count. The high cost of new construction and the efficiencies of smaller spaces motivates us to think creatively about the spaces we need.
This is not a scarcity mentality. We need to be asking, "How do we get more living in less space." A home that fits get the abundance side right: "More" living. "Less" space.

7 Cost Effective Steps to Zero Energy Retrofits

We are seeing an increased interest in projects to get a home off fossil fuels and powered (now or soon) by renewable energy. These projects are mostly about guidance and providing a roadmap to integrating a strategy of building efficiency, updated mechanical systems, and solar panels (and potentially battery storage). They are also seeking to answer the question, "Where is the next dollar best spent?"
This guide "Seven Steps to Cost Effective Zero Energy Retrofits" does an excellent job of describing that roadmap.
