Hi Jamie,

Welcome to Wolfworks newsletter about the people, projects, and ideas that inspire our work and our relationships with folks like you.

Here's what you will find us up to in this issue:

  • Supporting a client running for the State Senate

  • Sharing our excitement about having Kyle working with us

  • Supporting a campaign to promote careers in the trades

  • Telling the story of a garage transformation

  • Noticing how the Electrify movement continues to go mainstream

  • ... and we provide a missing link!

From Passive House to the State Senate

Jamie & Janet with Paul & Diane Honig at the Avon Environmental Fair in May

We built the first certified Passive House in the state for Paul & Diane Honig and their family. It won first prize in the 2012 Zero Energy Challenge. We're excited to support Paul in his campaign for the State Senate in District 8. Paul's been out on his bike going door to door talking about how we can make our great state more prosperous, affordable, equitable, environmentally sustainable, safe and healthy. We hope you will support his candidacy if you have the opportunity.

Read about the Honig's Home

This home won 3 out of the 4 categories in the 2012 CT Net Zero Challenge, including being designated as the overall winner. These accomplishments reflect our intention to demonstrate that future friendly homes designed and built to be miserly in their use of energy are at the same time healthy, durable, and especially comfortable to live in.

Kyle Energizes Wolfworks Architecture Team

Kyle takes it outside on a beautiful August morning!

For four decades Wolfworks projects have been designed by Jamie Wolf. In September of 2021 Jamie welcomed architect Kyle Cruz to Wolfworks and thus began a design partnership that has them both energized and inspired to build on the legacy of that work. This design collaboration expands our capacity and has resulted in a positive synergy as we combine our talents.

Touch a Trade

Communities across America have a problem. As tradespeople are retiring and fewer young people are entering the trades, contractors and homeowners are facing a shortage of skills and experience. Now is the time for communities to mobilize to ensure the transfer of knowledge to the next generation. Touch a Trade is an initiative designed to address this problem by sparking the individual’s interest in working with their hands. This coming Saturday October 22 from 10-4 in Kent, CT Project manager Janet Downey and carpenter Chris Tolly are volunteering to offer youth and adults the opportunity to safely participate in trades, crafts, and self-sufficiency skills with their own hands.

If you know of a young person or others who might be attracted to a satisfying career in the trades, pass this along.

What the Garage Wants

Sometimes the best use for a garage is not a garage. This is the story of a project in which we transformed a garage that interfered with a great rear yard oasis into a sunfilled gathering space. Cats and love are central to the story!

Looking Ahead to a Clean Energy Future

The Electrify movement is indeed going mainstream. Ultium Home will be the residential arm of the new GM Energy. Similar to competitors like Tesla and Ford, GM will soon offer stationary storage that can connect an EV to a driver’s home, solar technology, and the grid in one holistic system. While GM gets ready to roll this out, we are installing systems with these features today! Check in with us to learn more.
