  • Energy stories worth watching

  • Beyond Orange Cars...

Celebrating the Light

It's no surprise that we choose to celebrate light in this season of darkness. Here on the winter solstice the sun sits low and the light pours into homes designed to be heated by solar energy. From Hannukah candles to Christmas tree lights, however you choose to celebrate light in the darkness, Happy Solstice!

Homes Design Themselves

Here's a home design secret: the home starts to design itself. The opportunities and challenges the building site presents guide how the home wants to be arranged and its design developed. As we break ground on our latest high performance home we thought we'd describe just how this works.

Sustainable Southbury's Food Waste Initiative

We support the work that Sustainable Southbury is doing to call attention to the impact of food waste. Gone are the days of throwing out our trash and never giving it a second thought.  Our landfills are full, the Hartford trash burning plant has closed and many towns are now shipping trash out of state (expensive in both dollars and carbon emissions). It’s simply not a sustainable solution to keep on doing what we have been doing.

We built this Zero Energy home in Southbury for one of the champions of Sustainable Southbury's Food Waste Initiative. We learned about this important work from her while taking part in their Environmental Fair this past Spring.

Your Guide to Designing and Building a Better Home

We're in the Better business. This is your mobile friendly guide to designing and building a better home. It walks you through the ways in which we think and build differently to create homes of lasting beauty that harvest the sun to produce as much energy as they use. It describes both the process, and the results: barefoot comfort, health, durability and energy security that you just can't get building for the world as it was. It's an invitation to Build Better.

Move over Orange, Wet Putty may be here to stay
